american idol season 5

I have been busy throughout the week and couldn't wait to sit down and type something about the American Idol. I was never impressed with the audition part (I find it utterly annoying). What I have been waiting all this while is to listen to the real talents.

From the beginning, all I want to see is Lisa Tucker and Ace Young. Man, they have the face of a star and they can sing really well! Both of them did really well this week. I am really impressed with Ace when he sang one of my favourite song, Father Figure, originally sang by George Micheal. Ace definitely knows how to choose a song that suits her voice. And Lisa, she's just so young but her talent simply shines.

I always find Taylor 'Grey-haired Guy' Hicks weird. But when he performed the song, Levon, I was impressed by the way he moves and sing the song. I felt as if he was singing a winning song at the final! As the judges said, he is Original (with a capital 'O'). If you have watched American Idol the previous week, you will be amazed to see him blowing the harmonica while walking in for his final audition. I had goose bumps just watching that.

There are so much talents this season. I have other favourites too like Ayla, Katharine, Elliot and Chris. However, I believe no rockers will be able to compare to Bo Bice, no black singers will be able to take the place of Fantasia and finally, no country singers since Carrie Underwood.

The winner of this season? I think it is quite obvious. I think American Idol needs a new pop singer since Kelly Clarkson.

crossword construction workshop

My crossword construction workshop ran smoothly this morning. Although some of the participants cannot make it due to the changes of time and date, I'm still glad that I'm able to proceed with this first workshop at my faculty.

Throughout the workshop, I was able to understand more about the teachers need and things that I can improve in my presentation. I must say that I have a great group of teachers/educators yesterday. They are very proactive, knowledgeable and respectable teachers.

It's definitely not easy when it's a one-man show. There's a lot of preparation work, marketing and coordinating job. However, I couldn't wait to organize another one in this near future.

an ex-user of Renu Multi-Purpose Solution

I am an ex-user of Bausch & Lomb's Renu Multi-Purpose Solution. I am not surprise when I read in The Star that this multi-purpose solution is causing fungal eye infection.

In December, I started facing problems with my contact lens. At first I thought it was the lens. I have been using Acuvue disposable lens (1-month) for many years and never have such problem until I started using the multi-purpose solution in that month. I have to change the lens just after two days of using them because I felt sharp pain in my eyes. Then I decided to stop using the solution to see if that's the cause to my problem. I was right.

I thought it was my eyes that were sensitive and not suitable in using the Renu brand. Now I know I was not alone. Hopefully our Ministry of Health will investigate and stop users from using them until they can prove the solution is safe for usage.

learn to construct crossword puzzles (for educators)

The Star published an incorrect title for my workshop. It is a workshop to help teachers to "construct" classroom crosswords and not learning how to "solve" them. Anyway, thank you The Star (Education) for their support.

The crossword construction workshop is strictly for teachers, tutors and anyone in the educational line.

As an educator who is using classroom crosswords in teaching, I see tremendous changes in my students. They are not only able to pick up terms and vocabulary but also understand its usage. For example, in Bahasa Melayu PMR level, my students are able to identify the different types of gaya bahasa in the anthologies and novels they read, thanks to their effort in solving crosswords I've created.

Learn how to create worksheet or online crossword puzzles for classroom teaching.

Another benefit of using crosswords in classroom teaching is improving students' ability in spelling. This is especially useful when it comes to learning languages, memorizing scientific and mathematical terms, historical and geographical facts, etc.

Teachers are encouraged to use classroom crosswords to compliment their teaching. I know most teachers would like to do that but the methods taught to them are either complicated or not user-friendly. Hence, this workshop is conducted to guide them to an easy crossword construction which they can master in just 2 hours.
