Will you drop American Idol like they drop Hicks, Studdard and McPhee?

American Idol season 7 is going to start soon. Are you excited? Am I excited? No!

I have completely lost interest since the last season whereby Jordin Sparks is the winner. The judges said the same thing. The contestants sang the same kinda songs. Perhaps the only thing interesting is watching all those William Hung wannabes.

The show has lost its credibility. Yeah, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry did make some airwaves with their hit songs. But others just go down the drain. Record labels have dropped previous winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard. And now another record label decided to drop Katharine McPhee as well.

Last season was a complete disaster. American Idol has become the biggest joke with Sanjaya being one of the voters favourite. To me, the voting system has never been my favourite. It sucks when you see the best contestant being voted off while keeping the weaker ones. Try ask Chris Daughtry fans.

Will American Idol end up like another reality show 'Survivor' (I'm talking about ratings-wise)? I doubt American Idol will survive too. Okay, maybe another season if Paula Abdul is being accused drunk on the show or Britney Spears decided to call Simon Cowell for advice.

One Million Star: Hottest reality-based singing program in Taiwan

If you haven't heard about the show One Million Star (超級星光大道) before, you must be living under your shell. Or perhaps you are just not into the Chinese music industry.

Don't we all love kung fu movies? In a typical kung fu movie, the gang from a rival school (usually bad guys) will always ask for a challenge from the main actor (usually from the best kung fu school in town). In Cantonese, it is called tek gun or chai cheong, if you know what I mean. Even Chuck Norris wanted to challenge Bruce Lee to see who is the best.

The same idea is applied to this singing contest whereby challengers are welcome to, well, challenge (in this show, they use the term 'PK', which I still do not know what exactly it stands for) the contestants. Some challengers suck but there are also some good ones, like Jam Xiao, who are feared by the contestants in season 1, which is currently shown on AEC channel on Astro every Sunday night. In season 2, one of the challenger is our very own Malaysian, Astro Talent Quest winner in 2001, Eric Lim Kien Fai. I am quite impress with him singing his rendition of the song 'My Way'.

*Spoiler* Recently, I gain a lot of traffic from this post about the show. Some people want to know who is the winner of the first season. Well, if you can't wait for the result show on AEC channel, the winner is Yoga Lin. Surprisingly, Aska Yang is the most popular guy in the show despite he didn't win after pulling out from the show for personal reason which has something to do with the controversy in the show about his age. And not to mention Jam Xiao's success too.

Here's the performance of the three guys (the first three contestants in this youtube are Aska Yang, Yoga Lin and Jam Xiao). If you are following up with season two, you might want to agree with me that this time, a girl is going to win.

Tribute to MGS, my alma mater - part 2

This is the continuation of my previous post on my alma mater, Methodist Girls School (MGS), Kuantan.

For me it is a meaningful post because my ex-schoolmates get in touch with me after reading that post. One of them is my ex-classmate in the primary level, Zuraini, whom I never get in touch at all ever since we left school after Standard 6.

In this post, I just want to share with you my school song. I wish I can have a copy of the song to be uploaded here. By the way, you won't be able to find the lyric of this song anywhere else.

March along, school girls of MGS,
Singing and tell all the world your story,
Out to win, girls, but quick to smile, girls,
If fortune fails you in the game,
Rules obey, girls, and be of aid, girls,
And up the grade, girls,
And crown your school with glory,
Everyone loyal to MGS,
Work hard and make your school proud of your name.

March along, school girls of MGS,
We'll sing and tell the world our story,
It is pluck, girls, and now good luck, girls,
That bring success into the game,
We must work, girls, and must not shirk, girls,
Less dangers lurk, girls, and lose our school its glory,
All as one school girls of MGS,
Surely we'll make our school proud of your name.

I'm not sure if this is still the school song they sing in MGS anymore. Perhaps they have changed into a Malay song now. Why not since many traditions are not practiced anymore which is very sad.

To eat or not to eat outside?

Cooking dinner can be very time consuming. I mean you go to work in the morning and spend almost the rest of the day in the office. And not to mention commuting to work and back home which most of the time the traffic is congested.

So by the end of the day, you just want to simply tapao food home or have dinner with colleagues or friends somewhere nearby your workplace.

I always have this habit of eating at the same place (or few places) all the time for my dinner. I don't like to go to fancy restaurants or to the recommended places in food blogs. I simply enjoy simple and familiar food (that suit my taste) without burning hole in my pocket.

However when eating almost the same thing for every dinner can be very boring. So, sometimes I'll just cook simple meal. And today I'm all alone in the house cooking some bacon, baked beans, sausage and egg with some lettuce for dinner. With self made minty jelly and two episodes of Gilmore Girls, the evening can still be very appetizing too.

Meme: Chinese New Year's tradition

I've got this meme from Dora which is right at this time before Chinese New Year.

What are some of your new year’s good luck traditions?

Rules :Copy the person and persons’ names that sent it to you and add your own at the bottom of the list.

*My mom used to collect some coins and when the new year comes she put the coins in a bowl and shake it to create sounds. She said its good luck for money throughout the year. And also wearing dotted dresses on new year don’t know why. CC/chalyza/keep

*My old folks always told us to avoid spending money on new years day. They said, once you spend on the first day of the year, you like to spend the rest of the year.Behind d Scenes of ME/ Retchel’s Pure Life/ /A little bit of me

*I grew up believing that if you have some money on your pocket (whatever you’re wearing) come New Year’s eve it will ensure steady flow of income throughout the year. The other belief is that the main door of the house should be wide open come New Year’s eve so that good luck will be ushered in. Juliana of MY WORLD and JULIANA’S LAIR.

*I don't have any traditionals during New Year. Juliana RW

*I have keep a RM50 note which the serial number is begin with number 8 and end up with number 8 also, between the number, it’s not encourage to have number 4 and number 0. By doing this we will have steady income throughout the whole life. It’s not easy to find such note. Another ways is to keep your “Ang Pao” in your pocket or put it inside your pillow on the New Year eve before you sleep. Hazel

*I must make sure our house is clean & tidy on CNY Eve because the God of Prosperity will only "visit" a house which is comfortable to stay with! And I must not sweep or mop the house on First Day of CNY or else the wealth may be ruined. Dora

I've written a similar topic before in this post and I'm going to paste one of the tradition here:
Must have leftovers from reunion dinner on Chinese New Year eve.

Eminem exceeds 200 lbs and rushed to hospital due to heart problem

Everyone is so concern about weight and yet the majority of us never determine enough when it comes to losing weight. And that includes me.

I always give the same excuses, that I don't have the time to cook and when it comes to eat outside, I can't get any healthy food. And going for an evening jog is almost impossible as I usually work late. The excuses can go on and on.

Many people are finding it hard to make that decision to take action to lose weight. Even celebrity like Eminem knows he is getting fat back in the year 2006. The rapper hasn't been serious about hitting the gym.

And today, he is in the news for having complications from pneumonia. It is said that his weight has exceeded 200 lbs and having serious heart condition and severe pneumonia.

He has been released from the hospital now and resting at home.

(btw, this is a photochopped picture of Eminem that I came about in the internet)

The media will kill Britney Spears

Personally, I love Britney. Or to be specific the old Britney when she first rises to stardom.

She couldn't handle her personal life well, what more her public life which is widely exploited by the media. Even Dr. Phil wants to get a piece of her stuck up life (although I'm glad he cancels Britney show).

She's divorced, lost her children's custody, get caught many times during her lowest points, has been accused for having mental problem and was recently hospitalized after appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

Honestly speaking, history always repeat itself and certainly we do not want to hear the same thing happen to Britney as it happened to some of the dead celebrities like Anna Nicole Smith and Elvis Presley. Perhaps Britney should seek opinion from people like Mariah Carey on how to overcome emotional breakdown and come back stronger than ever.
