Monica Seles inducted into Hall of Fame

Monice Seles was enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Newport’s grass courts on Saturday.

She was the world’s no. 1 women’s player for 178 weeks overall and a winner of nine Grand Slam singles titles.

“I would like to thank all my tennis fans who were there from Day One when I was No. 1, through my stabbing, and my comeback,” Seles said.
The attack shocked the sports world. Seated during a changeover at a match in Hamburg, Germany, Seles was stabbed between the shoulder blades by a crazy Steffi Graf fan.

During the ceremony, Seles, playfully, gave one more grunt "for old, good time sakes".

Is this Sport or Maternity Fashion Awards?

Caroline Wozniacki, Sofia Arvidsson and Sorana Cirstea attended the "2009 Sport Fashion Award" held in conjunction with the Collector Swedish Open on Friday.

Luckily, Cirstea's sweet little pink dress and her Jennifer Aniston look saved the day.

Israel reaches first Davis Cup semifinal

Israel has reached its first Davis Cup semifinal by taking an unbelievable 3-0 lead over Russia.

Australian Open doubles champions Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich defeated Marat Safin and Igor Kunitsyn 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4 to decide the best-of-five series.

“This is something I will cherish for all of my life,” said Erlich, who recently came back from a 10-month injury layoff.
A day earlier, Israel had taken a surprising 2-0 lead after Harvel Levy beat Igor Andreev and Dudi Sela rallied to defeat Mikhail Youzhny in the singles matches.

Russia has won the Davis Cup twice—in 2002 and 2007—and made it to the semifinals in each of the past five years.

Israel had reached the quarterfinals once before, losing to India in New Delhi in 1987.

Now Israel will take on either Germany at home or Spain away in September.

Sania Mirza is officially engaged to Sohrab Mirza!

Amid tight security (due to a series of drama prior to the engagement party), Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is officially (and safely) engaged to childhood friend Mohammed Sohrab Mirza, 23 at the Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad on Friday.

In an exclusive, by-invitation only function which was attended by close to 300 special and close invitees, the evening’s celebrations were kicked off with a ceremonial exchange of rings.

Sohrab, the son of local businessman Adil Mirza, put an exquisite diamond ring - worth $205,000 - onto Sania's ring finger and also offered her family jewellery as a mark of his affection.

Sania, 23, was dressed in a dazzling Shantanu & Nikhil, Swarovski-studded ghagra bought by the groom's family.

According to Sania's family, the actual wedding date is not scheduled to be held in the near future, as the tennis diva is not quitting tennis now.
