Why do people like to make themselves look ugly?

This is actually a continuation from this post about finding out which celebrities that look like you.

But I discover that instead of convincing yourself about how pretty or good looking you are, these days people prefer to make themselves look ugly and funny.

For example, your mobile phone is no longer being used to take picture but also to make that picture looks ugly. Well, my humble phone doesn't have those technology. My friend recently got a Sony Ericsson mobile phone as a birthday gift and it is able to do that (no need Adobe Photochop )
