US Open: Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams serve up double bagel each

We are already in Day 10 at the US Open. The men's quarterfinalists and women's semifinalists are on line-up, battling for the weekend's finals.

Earlier today, World no.1s Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams both powered through the next round by serving double bagel each. If you think that's a heavy meal to take on, you might need some weight loss tips.

Djokovic eliminated Spaniard Marcel Granollers 63 60 60 in just 79 minutes while Williams shut another Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 60 60 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Meanwhile Wimbledon and US Open defending champion Andy Murray dropped the first set but eventually came back to beat Denis Istomin in the first New York night session of his US Open title defence. He will face Stanislas Wawrinka on Thursday's quarterfinal match.

Djokovic is set to play against Mikhail Youzhny next, Richard Gasquet to meet Ferrer and Tommy Robredo and Rafael Nadal will battle it out in an all Spanish showdown.

In the women's category, Williams will play against Li Na in the first semifinal after the Chinese player defeated Ekaterina Makarova in three sets.

Roberta Vinci will play against Flavia Pennetta while Daniella Hantuchova will compete with Victoria Azarenka for places in the semifinals.

Practice photos ahead of Wimbledon

Here are some practice photos ahead of the Wimbledon tournament.

Surprising there aren't many practice photos of Roger Federer this year.

In fact, this year's digital team has been slacking without much effort being done on it's social media sites.

Stanislas Wawrinka ended the year by marrying his heavily pregnant girlfriend, Ilham Vuilloud!

Back in August, Wawrinka announced in his website that his girlfriend and him were expecting their first child due in February.

Swiss tennis has bright future; Stanislas Wawrinka's girlfriend Ilham Vuilloud is pregnant!

After a series of announcement made by Roger Federer, from Mirka's shocking pregnancy to their secret marriage and finally to the birth of their twins, it seems like it's deja vu all over again.

Swiss no.2 Stanislas Wawrinka has announced in his official website that his girlfriend Ilham Vuilloud and him are expecting a child next February.

The 3-month old baby is expected to be born in February, just like the mother. Vuilloud who is 10 years older than Wawrinka was born on February 24, 1974.

The parents to be did not mention when they are planning to tie the knot.

We believe it's going to be a secret wedding for friend and family.

Be calm... Rafael Nadal could play at Wimbledon warm-up event

First thing first, the headline/statement "Be Calm, I'm Going To Win" on this gorgeous looking cover of the Observer Magazine refers to the featured article written by Elizabeth Kaye (in case some people jump into conclusion and think Nadal is arrogant).
... (Staying calm is) a lesson that sustained (Rafael Nadal) when he was the world's number two for an unprecedented three years, waiting for an opening to become number one. Last year, as he neared that opportunity, rain halted the decisive fifth set of his Wimbledon final with Roger Federer. For the next hour Nadal was sequestered in the locker room with his coach and his trainer. "Be calm," he told them. "I am going to win."...
Yes, Nadal won last year.

However, things aren't look so great for him in this year's Wimbledon campaign especially after losing in the fourth round at the French Open to Sweden's Robin Soderling.

When Nadal decided to pull out of Queen's Club last week with tendinitis in both knees, some believe that he's not going to be able to defend his Wimbledon title this year... perhaps he's not even going to show up!

So after so many hoo-has, now Nadal was saying that he would consider to play at the Hurlingham Club on June 19 which he could take on Swiss' Stanislas Wawrinka if he’s healthy.

Nadal has played at Hurlingham in 2006 and 2007.
“It would be a good test for me to play there on Friday to see how the knee is doing and it would provide the perfect setting to get some practice before Wimbledon,” the 23-year-old said in a statement on his website.

“If I feel the recuperation is going well I will be more than happy to be there again. I hope that’s the case."
Let's see what's going to happen in the next few days. I don't want to speculate too soon.

Roger Federer: Curtains down in Monte Carlo, time for honeymoon?

Roger Federer lost to his Olympic gold-medal doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 7-5 in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters today.

This makes Wawrinka the first Swiss since Marc Rosset in 9 years to beat Federer.

While Wawrinka was playing confidently on clay, Federer on the other hand looked sloppy and shaky throughout the match.

At times wifey Mirka yawned looking extremely bored.

I guess Federer knew he needed a break.

C'mon the man just got married last weekend.

Looking on the bright side, Mirka and Roger now can pack up and go on a mini honeymoon to celebrate their new marriage.

Check out the wedding ring!

Stanislas Wawrinka blogs about losing his driver's licence and his match in Basel

These are what Stanislas Wawrinka wrote in his blog recently in Basel.

Saturday (Oct 18, 2008)
  • Drive his coach from his home town just 15 minutes north of Lausanne to Basel for the Davidoff Swiss Indoors.
  • Recently lost his driver's licence for a month for driving a 'little' fast.
  • Learned his lesson. There are lots of speed cameras and you'll get caught easily!
  • Pheww! The tournament provides Mercedes-Benz transportation service.
  • Go to the physio to do some massage.
  • Go home and ask girlfriend to do the massage.
  • Touristy talk about Lausanne.
  • What is a blog without the Olympics gold medal topic!
  • Still hoping to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup.
  • Match against Benjamin Becker. Post again tomorrow.

Sunday (Oct 19, 2008)
  • Lost to Benny Becker 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(5).
  • Losing before a home crowd that loves him when he won the gold medal.
  • Need to stay positive and need a BIG result at Paris next week.
  • Got a text message from a good friend. Friends are great whether you win or lose.
  • Driving home midnight. Careful with the speed. 4 or 5 days at home before heading to Paris.
  • No post tomorrow.

Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka win men's doubles

Gold medalists Roger Federer (3rd L) and Stanislas Wawrinka (3rd R) of Switzerland, Silver medalists Simon Aspelin (L) and Thomas Johansson (2nd L) from Sweden, and Bronze medalists Bob and Mike Bryan of US pose for pictures after competing in the men's double's tennis competition at the Olympic Green Tennis Centre in Beijing on August 16, 2008.

It doesn't matter whether it's men's singles or doubles, Roger Federer still won his first Olympic gold medal! And that matters!

An Olympic gold is priceless for Roger Federer who has an extensive trophy collection. By teaming up with Stanislas Wawrinka the Swiss duo won the Olympic doubles yesterday beating Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson of Sweden 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3.

Federer extended his arms in triumph and began to hop (which you don't quite often see as a singles player. Then, he embraced Wawrinka and they hopped together (hehe!).

With so many disappointment this year, Federer had waited long enough for a big victory to celebrate. And the Olympics is such a huge boost for his confidence.

After three Olympics, Federer is finally a medalist for the first time!
"Sort of a dream-come-true moment," Federer said. "Maybe it comes around once in a lifetime. It's almost disbelief, to some degree."

The winners are Nole and Dinara

Last weekend win proves to me that Novak Djokovic is an opportunist and seriously working his way to the no. 1 spot over taking Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

And even though Stanislas Wawrinka lost to Djokovic at the ATP Rome Masters, he is definitely the new name in the men's tennis. Now he has reached the an all-time high Top 10 in the ATP rankings making him the next best tennis player from Switzerland after Roger Federer.

At the German Open, Dinara Safina snatches the title after beating Elena Dementieva. If you still haven't know, Safina's brother is Marat Safin.

What the f@#% is going on at the semifinals?!

Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka just got free tickets to enter the final at Rome Open.

What the heck is going on? There are two injuries in the semifinals where Radek Stepanek had to stop playing due to wrist injury and overheating while Andy Roddick had to pull out due to a back problem. And the day before, during one of the quarterfinal, Nicolas Almagro had to retire while playing against Djokovic due to wrist injury.

Stepanek complaining wrist injury and overheating.

Roddick experiencing back injury.

Perhaps it's a bad timing for the Italian Masters. These players are having physical injuries and there's nothing can be done to avoid it. These retirements are definitely not the same as Djokovic's pull from Monte Carlo recently. Hopefully Djokovic-virus won't spread and spoil the world of men's tennis.
