Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki win BNP Paribas Open

Djokovic beats Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-2

Am I disappointed about Rafael Nadal's loss to Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells?

No, not at all.

In fact, I actually think Nadal is a smart player with long term planning. Look, he doesn't need to defend the title this year as his gap from the world no.2 is quite far apart, about 4000 points in the latest ATP rankings. What's more important is that he plays a small part in 'allowing' Djokovic to surpass Roger Federer as the new world no.2.

Anyway the season is still a long way from being over. I'm looking forward to the clay court season where the battle between Djokovic, Nadal and Federer will continue.

Wozniacki defeated Bartoli 6-1, 2-6, 6-3

On the women's tennis, Caroline Wozniacki made another strong statement that she's the best player after winning at the Indian Wells last week.

The question again is when can she win her first Grand Slam? I'm pretty sure that once she knows the formula, she could easily become one of the greatest players.

Kei Nishikori honours earthquake, tsunami victims

I hope it's not too late for me to express my sadness over the biggest earthquake that triggered a monstrous tsunami waves that washed away the coastal towns in Japan last week.

Very quickly I would think of Japanese pro tennis player Kei Nishikori.

According to Nishikori, he couldn't help but think of the devastating news as he played his opening match againts Igor Andreev at the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells on Friday.

"I was shocked yesterday and today, but I had to concentrate on my game,' said Nishikori who lost 6-4, 6-7 (2/7), 6-4."

The 20-year-old Nishikori wore a black ribbon on his chest in honour of those who who died in the devastation. He said his heart goes out to those who lost loved ones and their livelihoods.

"(Earthquakes) happen a lot in Japan especially," he said. "I knew it was going to happen sometime in a hundred years, but I didn't know it's going to happen like soon, like yesterday. Suddenly it came and so I don't think everybody was ready."

Nishikori's hometown of Shimane is in south-west Japan and far from the centre of the earthquake which struck off the northeast coast. Shimane is a one hour flight to Sendai which was the hardest hit area. As soon has he heard the news he phoned his family and friends back home.

"At least they are fine. My family is okay," he said. "I talked to them this morning. My town was okay. It wasn't too bad. But, you know, around Tokyo and others it's bad."

Novak Djokovic plays football with Andy Murray

Novak Djokovic was spotted playing football with a group of players including Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber in between training sessions during the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Check out the pictures here. Based on Murray's balancing skill, looks like he can play better football than Djokovic...

This is not a happy face (no djoke).

Currently ranked at 103, Rendy is looking set to bounce back into the top 100.

He'll fly to Indian Wells tomorrow to play in the ATP Masters 1000 qualifying round.

Did Camilla Belle dump Joe Jonas for Fernando Verdasco?

Looks like Fernando Verdasco has got himself a new squeeze.

Great Tennis Photos (GTP) reported that Nando is dating Camilla Belle!

After his match with Federer last week at Indian Wells, Nando and Camilla were spotted with Nando’s coach, his father and couple of friends while heading for a late dinner in a sports club.

According to Pacific Coast News as quoted by GTP, after the dinner the couple went to a resort La Quinta where Camilla was staying.

And then the next morning they were spotted in front of the Fernando’s hotel! Check out more photos here.

I thought they were friends and I was wrong!

But I predict that as soon as the Sony Ericsson Open is finished, I think we'll be hearing a different story.

A day earlier, Nando was spotted walking with Camilla Bella to her car. It looks like they are merely good friends.

Rafael Nadal overcomes Murray-complex; Vera Zvonareva beats Ana Ivanovic

Rafael Nadal overcame Murray-complex and powered his way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells final this morning!

This championship not only avenged a loss to Andy Murray in the Rotterdam final this year but also shows that Nadal has already mastered the hard court surface.

“I felt I played really good,” Nadal said.

“Maybe I was a little bit more prepared. I think I accepted the conditions."

“I tried to play inside the court, go to the net some, move all the time. It’s important that you know you don’t have to find the lines all the time, but hit the ball inside, not so close to the lines.”
Murray said, “Rafa dealt with it well."

"He hit the ball cleaner and just seemed to get himself in better positions than I did. You want to be in the best position possible to hit each ball and I wasn’t."

"That’s why he managed to dictate most of the points.”
In the women's singles final, Vera Zvonareva defeated defending champion Ana Ivanovic 7-6 (5), 6-2.
“After a couple of games, I knew that the conditions were very difficult and it’s not going to probably change and I have to fight for every point, have to adjust my game,” Zvonareva said.

“Even though I had some mistakes and some frustrating points with the wind, I was still trying to put as many balls as I can in the court, try to concentrate.”

Ivanovic said the conditions were the worst she’s played in.

“It wasn’t much about the game plan. It was just who can handle the conditions better, and who can stay probably mentally tougher through it,” Ivanovic said.

“Today, she did. “Yeah, she played really well.”
The victory evened Zvonareva’s record against Ivanovic to 4-4.

Rafael Nadal mobbed by fans! Where's the security?

I saw this video from Craig's blog and I wonder how can the security officials at the Indian Wells tournament can let this happen!

The last thing we want to see is a freaking stampede and a kid got killed!

Please take good care of our Rafa too! We don't want to see him get hurt in this tournament!

Mirka gets parenting tips from Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani and Mirka Vavrinec were spotted at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Last August, Stefani gave birth to the baby boy, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale.

I think Mirka and Roger's baby will have a more conservative name.

Ex-BFF is back in the spotlight, Camilla Belle doesn't want to miss out too

Maria Sharapova's ex-BFF Camilla Belle was spotted at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells.

She was watching the third round match between Fernando Verdasco and Richard Gasquet.

Don't tell me Nando's mohawk and single status got her interested all over again!

Check out their 'history' here. Here's a couple of pictures to refresh your mind.

Back to Nando, here's a clearer shot of his new hairstyle.

I always have a thing for mohawks, so I definitely dig this look. I don't understand why most of you guys don't :P

Maria Sharapova: It's not a pretty come back

Urghh... Sharapova looks terrible in these photos.

I don't know why but she keeps reminding me of Charlize Theron's character in that award winning movie Monster.

I guess Sharapova is a little disappointed after losing 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 in her first-round doubles match with partner Elena Vesnina against Ekaterina Makarova and Tatiana Poutchek, at Indian Wells.

Vesvina was the defending champion here last year with Dinara Safina.
“It feels very good to be back,” Sharapova said.

“I just wanted to test (the shoulder) out. I started training a couple of months ago. I just wanted to … test it out in a match situation and get a little different scenery than the practice court and play in front of the crowd, so that was exciting."

"The main goal for here was just to get out there and be in that atmosphere again."

“The hump I’ve got to get through right now is to put together two weeks of coming out to the court and playing two or three sets every day, and doing that for seven or eight days in a row. … Right now I’m able to do maybe three days or four days and then I have to take it easy on the fifth."
Even Sharapova herself wasn't sure where or when she would play again.

Now here are some prettier sights of Sharapova on court.

I miss her a lot! Hopefully she'll recover completely soon.
