Novak Djokovic continues to dominate men's tennis with 63rd career title in Miami

World no.1 Novak Djokovic continued his domination of men's tennis with a 6-3 6-3 win over fellow Uniqlo's ambassador Kei Nishikori in the Miami Open final at Key Biscayne, a win which sees him become tennis' all-time leading money winner.

Djokovic collected a sum of USD1,028,300 on weekend and his career earnings has approached USD100 million.

With four titles in 2016, following victories at the Australian Open, Qatar and Indian Wells, Djokovic will definitely be looking forward to the upcoming clay court season. The French Open remains to be the only Grand Slam title that is missing from his collection.

The Serbian only needed 85 minutes to join Andre Agassi as a six-time Miami Open winner.

Djokovic said his first Miami win in 2007 paved the way for a career that now includes a massive total of 63 ATP titles.

"It gave me a lot of confidence, a lot of self belief that I can finally win these big tournaments, finally beat the top players," he said.

"Every year I come back to this tournament I get goose bumps from those days. I was still 19 years old and making my way to the top."

Djokovic seems invincible and untouchable at the moment

It was his fourth consecutive championship, and a record 28th overall, in the Masters 1000.

Why can't we have dolphin instead of snake?

Honestly, I have no idea why the organizers like to put the tennis players together with animals. Especially when they put them together with a slithering scary snake.

Jarmila Groth, Tzvetana Pironkova and Juan Ignacio Chela had to deal with their fear in a photo shoot yesterday.

Vania King, Potito Starace, Ivan Ljubicic, and Thomas Berdych were luckier. They got dolphins earlier this week.

Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic to play charity soccer match for Japan

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will lead a group of top tennis players (Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, Fernando Verdasco, Richard Gasquet, Feliciano Lopez, Viktor Troicki, Marcos Baghdatis, David Ferrer, Jurgen Melzer, etc.) in a charity soccer match to help raise money for Japan earthquake relief.

Nadal and Djokovic are in South Florida for the Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne.

The tennis players are planning to play in the soccer match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers pro team at a Miami high school Wednesday night.

The match is free and open to the public, with all donations collected throughout the evening will proceed to the American Red Cross Japan disaster relief effort.

A fundraising dinner is also planned after the game.

Earlier last week, Djokovic wore a knee tape with the message written in support of Japan while playing at the BNP Paribas Open.

Caroline Wozniacki excited about Sony Ericsson and Foursquare collaboration

“I love the idea that Sony Ericsson and Foursquare are giving fans the chance to become a key part of the game, rather than just being spectators. The Sony Ericsson Open is always an amazing tournament on the tour, so it seems natural that we give the fans the ultimate tennis experience here in Miami.
~ Caroline Wozniacki

Sony Ericsson has partnered with Foursquare to make the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami the first ever fully-integrated Foursquare sporting event.

Sony Ericsson will work with Foursquare to encourage attendees to check-in at the different venues at the Open, starting on March 21, rewarding them with prizes, specific Tennis Fan Badges and discounts on tickets.

Users will also have the chance to win access to post-match conferences with the players and secure a personal one-on-one autograph session.

If a Foursquare user at the event is able to become the Mayor of each court at the Sony Ericsson Open, he/she will be able to head out onto the court to participate in a pre-match coin toss.

The initiative is likely to ensure Foursquare continues to dominate the check-in app market and in return, driving sales at the event and fans like me to collect badges and win prizes. What a brilliant idea!

When was the last time Roger Federer get touchy-feely with Mirka in public?

It's not easy to see tennis stars showing off their love and affection to their partners in public.

These are some rare photos of Roger Federer and Mirka, which could due back to 2005.

Time flies... they are now married and baby Federer is due soon, probably just two months from now.

Roger Federer must have forgotten his mom's advice

Roger Federer's mom Lynette once said in a newspaper interview, "I used to say to Roger, 'When you have these outbursts like this, you're just telling your opponent that you're ready for him to beat you'".

She was right.

Roger Federer lost his temper and the match against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals at the Sony Ericsson Open last night.

Federer angrily broke his racket Friday en route to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 loss to Djokovic.

Federer fell behind 2-love in the third set, and when he netted an easy forehand to start the next game, he slammed his racket to the concrete, mangling it.

The outburst came as a shock especially to his fans.

“I was just frustrated,” a red-eyed Federer said shortly after the match.

“Didn’t feel great. It’s just a natural thing I did.”
Federer lost the next two games as the match slipped away despite support from a sympathetic crowd.

Djokovic’s opponent in the final Sunday will be Andy Murray who beat Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

Miami hate Rafael Nadal, no?

"Maybe it was wonderful for the crowd but it was terrible for me."
~ Rafael Nadal after he lost 4-6, 6-3, 6(3) to Juan Martin Del Potro.

The 20-year-old Argentine delighted a "partisan crowd" by upsetting the top-ranked Nadal in the quarterfinals at the Sony Ericsson Open.

According to AP, Del Potro "was buoyed by a home-court advantage, with many transplanted Argentines in the crowd singing "Del-Po" between points".

Tennis chicks at Sony Ericsson Open Kickoff Party

This is the continuous from the previous post here.

Check out the girls on the red carpet at the kickoff party, at the Fountainbleu Hotel in club LIV prior to the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida.

Fyi, I've filtered out the bad ones and leave the hot ones here ;)

Dominika Cibulkova is like the Eva Longoria of tennis. Looking at her picture here, I can't help but imagine her in a sexy nurse outfit.

Agnieszka Radwanska maybe out of the WTA top 10 in the latest but she's in my top 5 favourite WTA ladies.

Dark-haired Russian hottie Anastasia Pivovarova is chic and glam in that green dress.

Caroline Wozniacki injects some cuteness on the red carpet.

Double thumbs up from Nole!

Sony Ericsson Open Kickoff Party: From fashion faux pas to fashion (not so) fabulous

The players arrived on the red carpet of the kickoff party, at the Fountainbleu Hotel in club LIV prior to the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida.

According to Butch Buchholz, chairman of the Sony Ericsson Open (note: read the linked article), what impresses him most about Rafael Nadal is how deceptive the world no.1 is. I agree! Nadal might look like a slob and out of place here but I hope you won't be surprised if he comes out on top in this tourney.

Maria Sharapova is trying to revive MC Hammer pants fashion trend again. I'm not joking because harem pants are really making a comeback this spring. I hope Sharapova too.

We've seen this dress a thousand times. Next!

Love that dress and love that new hairdo even more! But Venus Williams still lack of fabulosity.

If only Nadal dressed like James Bond minus the bow tie. I mean James Blake.

Serena Williams serves up "Signature Statement" at Sony Ericsson Open press conference

Serena Williams unveiled her Signature Statement exclusive fashion and accessories collection for Home Shopping Network (HSN) yesterday.

And it was actually done during the pre-tourney press conference at Tennis Center at Crandon Park, Miami.

Blame the credit crunch!

Serena said, “I always want to make a statement, both on and off the court."

"One of my dreams has always been to share gorgeous gifts of fashion and luxury with the world. Off the court, my passion is fashion."

"Signature Statement is my own line of accessories and fashion, complete from jewelry to dresses.”
By collaborating with HSN, Serena joins the likes of Iman and Paula Abdul, who have also developed their own line of accessories.

And like Iman and Paula Abdul, Serena is totally involved in designing the collection.

The collection will be officially launched at HSN on April 30th, 2009.

Kei Nishikori in Miami but not hitting the court

Kei Nishikori paid a visit to Baptist Children's Hospital in Miami yesterday.

However the Japanese tennis star is not playing at the Sony Ericsson Open due to an elbow injury.
According to nikkansports.com, Kei saw an elbow specialist in New York after losing in Indian Wells. At the doctor's recommendation, he decided to take at least weeks off to focus on rest and rehabilitation.
Now bad news aside, Kei's appearance in Miami could mean something good.

He is one of the five candidates for the ATP Newcomer of the Year Award alongside Jeremy Chardy, Marcel Granollers, Philipp Petzschner and Eduardo Schwank.

The winner will be announced today. Kei has a good chance of grabbing this award!

Updates: As predicted, Kei has won the ATP Newcomer of the Year Award. Congrats!

How could they miss out Gilles Simon at the Miami Seaquarium?

Fernando Gonzalez, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Nenad Zimonjic were at the Miami Seaquarium earlier today prior to the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida.

Did Camilla Belle dump Joe Jonas for Fernando Verdasco?

Looks like Fernando Verdasco has got himself a new squeeze.

Great Tennis Photos (GTP) reported that Nando is dating Camilla Belle!

After his match with Federer last week at Indian Wells, Nando and Camilla were spotted with Nando’s coach, his father and couple of friends while heading for a late dinner in a sports club.

According to Pacific Coast News as quoted by GTP, after the dinner the couple went to a resort La Quinta where Camilla was staying.

And then the next morning they were spotted in front of the Fernando’s hotel! Check out more photos here.

I thought they were friends and I was wrong!

But I predict that as soon as the Sony Ericsson Open is finished, I think we'll be hearing a different story.

Updates: Apparently Camille and Joe Jonas are still together and rumoured to be hunting for a love nest!

Rafael Nadal and Ana Ivanovic tee off Sony Ericsson Open

Thank goodness they didn't think of changing the golf ball to a mini tennis ball or use a tennis racquet to make the putt.

Earlier, Andy Murray and Venus Williams were on another promotional event for the Sony Ericsson Open playing traffic tennis.

I'm sure Rafael Nadal gave Ana Ivanovic some handy tips on how to make some accurate putts.

This event took place on the 11th green at Crandon Golf, Key Biscayne, Florida prior to the tournament.

Venus Williams and Andy Murray stop the traffic in Miami

Andy Murray and Venus Williams appeared at an impromptu game of traffic tennis on Ocean Drive prior to the Sony Ericsson Open earlier today in Miami, Florida.

Sometimes I don't really understand all these promotional events. I don't mind seeing them play on a rooftop or on the beach but from the car roofs?

Can't they be more creative like this last year or like this?
