Review: 10 (good and bad) facts about the movie Hairspray

1. Definitely one of the best musical in this century. While it is not on the same par compare to classics such as Sound of Music or Grease, I can't believe Hollywood still able to produce such a well-rounded movie with great songs, dream casts and most importantly good message and moral values.

2. It's all about the music. Come on, who doesn't love music from the 60s? Rock 'n' roll never dies. I enjoy every single song in the movie but I particularly love 'You're Timeless To Me' and '
Welcome to the 60's'.

3. John Travolta definitely steals the show as Edna Turnblad. Just because he's a woman in this movie doesn't mean that he'll get a nomination for the next Oscars. But John Travolta is definitely born for musical and I enjoy every minute watching him particularly on the ala-Bollywood scene with Christopher Walken.

4. Black people can sing better than the white people.

5. No on-screen chemistry between between Link Larkin (played by Zac Efron) and Tracy Turnblad (newcomer Nikki Blonsky). I have no idea how Link can suddenly fall so deeply in love with Tracy. Okay, probably I'm being discriminative here thinking that a cute guy can't fall in love with a fat girl.

6. Every teenager loves Zac Efron. I have no idea why young girls are so crazy for him. And I still can't get over the fact that his character kissed Tracy Turnblad. Bad, bad me!

7. Well, I love Michelle Pfeiffer but her villain character
Velma Von Tussle is not really a suitable one for her. Probably Sharon Stone would be a better choice.

8. Nikki Blonsky shines only at the beginning part of the show (I like the part where she sits on top of the garbage truck singing 'Good Morning Baltimore'). But the rest of her performance was bland. I don't think we'll ever see her on a big budget movie like this anymore.

9. The supporting casts shine in this movie. James Marsden can sing? I think he did a good job as Corny Collins. Amanda Bynes and Elijah Kelley did a job in providing on-screen chemistry in their inter-racial relationship as Penny Pingleton and Seaweed (shame on you, Zac).

10. Everyone dance in this musical. Even big momma Edna can move. Now who wants to join me for a Strickin' Chicken dance?

Shrek 3: JT can't act and the most hilarious moment in the show

*spoiler ahead*

Justin Timberlake proves himself again that he just can't act. Not even in an animated movie. And I just can't stand his squeaky like a mouse voice.

I watched Shrek 3 last night. No doubt I'm a big fan of the show, never missed a single one. But honestly this is the worst sequal of all. It's not as funny as the first and the second. Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz characters didn't shine this time because the focus is on characters like the evil Prince Charming and the new King Arthur.

There are some hilarious moments though and I especially like the part where King Harold the frog is dying.

This movie is still worth watching and especially for those who had followed since the first movie. At least I didn't sleep in the cinema this time.

fell asleep @ the cinema again

Okay, it's true this is not my first, second or third time sleeping while watching a movie at the cinema. Most of the time it happened at the cinema in Genting.

Just now I went to catch the movie, Blades of Glory (BOG) at GSC 1 Utama. I'm a fan of Will Farrell but man, this movie is not that hilarious. Even Wild Hogs was 5 times better than this one. There are some entertaining and funny moments but BOG is just as disappointed as Mr Bean's Holiday.

I was already having headache (real headache and it's not caused by Paypal) since morning and working until 9.30 p.m. By the time I was in the cinema for the 11.20 p.m. show I was already tired. before even half of the show, I fell asleep until the show was over.

GSC weekly contest: winning the consolation prize

I received a letter from Golden Screen Cinemas today. You know what? My heart was pumping really fast. Recently I joined one of their weekly contest and I could be winning the prize to stay at Club Med Cherating!

And so I did win! But I won the consolation prize which is 5 movie vouchers. It's not bad at all since a movie ticket costs us RM10. I'm sharing this prize with my friend, SYong, since she was the one who initiated to take part in the contest and gave me to total trust to write the slogans for two entries.

Now we are aiming for the grand prize, the trip to Club Med Maldives!

300 follow up: who is the real King Xerxes?

This is the follow up of my previous post on the movie 300.

In my opinion, the most fascinating character in 300 is not King Leonidas or his Queen but the effeminate Xerxes of Persia. I was asking myself, since when a Persian King was bald, gold and jewel-clad and had his fingernails manicured?

Eventually, the real Xerxes in the picture above wear little jewelery or probably no jewelery at all. He also has a beard and mustache and a head full of hair (even more than Leonidas).

To continue from the ending of the movie, which is based on what I get from wikipedia, after King Leonidas was killed by Xerxes men, he was beheaded by Xerxes' order and his body crucified. Immediately after Xerxes ordered the desecration of Leonidas' body, however, he felt remorse and, forty years later, Leonidas' corpse was returned to the Spartans.

300: I thought I didn't like violent movie

I'm not into violent movies but I've just watched 300. I fell asleep while watching the Lord of the Ring movies but I didn't even blink for a second when watching 300.

300 is not the best movie I ever seen. However, I must say that it is the most visually eye-popping experience I ever had since Jurassic Park.
The bloody battles and beheading scenes were very impressive.

I don't think 300 is historically accurate but who cares when you are watching great acting skills from Gerard Butler as King Leonidas and Lena Heady as the Queen who fights for the freedom of their country.
