Paradorn Srichaphan splits with beauty queen wife Natalie Glebova

Former Thai pro tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan and beauty queen wife Natalie Glebova are calling it quit after three years of marriage.

The couple said in a statement last week that they decided to split last July because work commitments had kept them apart.

The celebrity couple were at Thailand Channel 3's Tee Sip (At Ten) studio as they made their first public announcement about their divorce

The former world no.9 ranked tennis player and former Miss Universe have launched beauty products, diet supplements and a Bangkok restaurant together. They said in the statement they planned to continue to do business with one another.

The pair met at the Thailand Open on the ATP Tour in 2006, a year after Glebova was crowned Miss Universe and were married in September 2007, the year that Srichaphan's tennis career ended due to a wrist injury.

Safin, Sharapova among tennis stars to kick off 2010 at the Hong Kong Tennis Classic

Looks like it has becoming a trend in Asia (e.g. Doha, Malaysia, etc) where tennis events are heavily bankrolled by their respective governments.

Now the same thing is happening to the yearly tennis exhibition JB Classic after its title sponsor pulled out recently.

A new event with different format has taken over - the Hong Kong Tennis Classic 2010.

Next January, teams from four regions of the world (Russia, Asia, America and Europe) will consist of two ladies and a man.

Team Russia: Marat Safin, Maria Sharapova, Vera Zvonareva
Team Asia: Paradorn Srichaphan, Zheng Jie, Ayumi Morita
Team America: Michael Chang, Venus Williams, Gisela Dulko
Team Europe: Stefan Edberg, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka

The new team format will feature women’s & men’s singles and mixed doubles matches over four days of action packed tennis at Victoria Park.

Tickets for the Hong Kong Tennis Classic will be on sale from the beginning of December. Details will be announced in due course.

Is Paradorn Srichaphan selling adult product?

According to Srichaphan, he hoped his latest business, a herbal-product company called Magic Thaiherbs, will not tarnish his image as a national hero.
"Unlike Viagra, my product is more like a tonic which is good for men's bodies. When men are happy and healthy, they make married life better,'' said the former Thai no.1.

Is former world no.9 Paradorn Srichaphan ready to make a comeback since 2007?

Well, not quite so.

According to Srichaphan, he is not ready to make a comeback yet, but that doesn't mean he has effectively retired from tennis.

Married to former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova, Srichaphan had spent his time away from the tour motorcycling, appearing on a Thai sports TV show and most recently opening an Italian cuisine restaurant.

One million baht carrot for Thai Davis Cup team

The Thai Davis Cup team will earn a million baht bonus if they beat Australia in this weekend's Asia/Oceania Zone Group I clash.

The Thai team will be led by Danai Udomchoke with Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana, Kittipong Vachiramanowong and Peerakiat Siriruethaiwattana.

Thanakorn Srichaphan is the team captain while his brother Paradorn, who cannot play because of an injured wrist, will be the assistant coach.

The Australian team is led by Lleyton Hewitt supported by Carsten Ball, Chris Guccione and Brydan Klein.

The winning team will meet either India or Taiwan in May.

Thai team manager Atat Nana said the players were looking forward to the event, especially as doubles pair Sonchat and Sanchai won a doubles title in Australia last week.

The match will be held at the National Tennis Development Centre, Muang Thong Thani from Friday until Sunday.

Paradorn Srichaphan eyeing a switch to motorsport

Paradorn Srichaphan with Novak Djokovic at the Thailand Open 2008 final

Plagued by injury for almost two years, Thai tennis ace Paradorn Srichaphan is eyeing a switch to motorsport to rediscover his competitive edge.

The former world no. 9 has been busy promoting the sport in his home country and admits he is considering ditching his racket to race fast cars and motorcycles.
"I've been really bored and it would be huge challenge to move from one sport to the next," Paradorn said.

"I'm involved in a racing team and my sponsors are interested in having me racing for them, but only when I retire from tennis. I still plan to return to the tour."
The 29-year-old has been off the court since December 2006 after a recurrent wrist injury.

However, his marriage to former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova, who was recently seen on The Amazing Race Asia season 3, ensured he never disappeared from the limelight at home as his dwindling career took a nose-dive.

Unlike many Thai sportsmen, Paradorn has resisted the temptation to become a singer or television actor and believes motorsport, at domestic level at least, is where his future lies.

"In Thailand, motorsport is getting bigger and bigger. I love the sport, bikes and cars, and I'm not bad at it," said a suited, lean-looking Paradorn, who no longer has his muscled physique.

"When I watch the other (tennis) players I wish it was me, I miss the thrill of the competition.

"In the long term I need something else and I'm not ruling out getting behind the wheel of a fast car or riding a bike."

Paradorn Srichaphan's wife on the Amazing Race Asia 3

The Amazing Race Asia is coming back for the third season!

I'm not so into this franchise reality show simply because it's filled with 'beautiful' contestants who are usually models, celebrities and gwai lous (caucasians).

One of the contestant in the new season, scheduled to be on TV this September, is a familiar face. She's Natalie Glebova, former Miss Universe in 2005 and also Thailand’s highest ranking (and once world #9) tennis player Paradorn Srichaphan.
Natalie & Pailin team on TARA 3

Paradorn and Natalie, the husband and wife team

Naturally, Paradorn was her first choice for a teammate. "But during the application period, he was busy with his tennis training as he's hoping to go back on tour next year," she explained.

As Natalie was gagged by the show's confidentiality clauses, she said Paradorn discovered her participation only two weeks ago, when it was officially announced.

So how did she keep it from her hubby?
"I travel a lot, hosting and presenting TV shows. It's been like this ever since we started dating, so he thought I was just going for work again."

"He was shocked when he found out (I was on the show). We had a good laugh about it."
She gushed that married life is 'really good' and Paradorn is a 'great husband who cares for her'.

The couple are planning to start a a family soon.

Awww... isn't that sweet?
