Rafael Nadal heads to Disneyland following 5th French Open title

There's no better place to celebrate a meaningful win than at the Disneyland together with the Chipmunks, Goofy, Mr & Mrs Incredible, etc.

Rafael Nadal was posing in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle during a photocall at the Disneyland Paris theme park in Marne-la-Vallee, east of Paris today.

The King of Clay defeated, Robin Soderling in the men's finals at the Roland Garros stadium yesterday.

Nadal not only reclaim back his no.1 ranking, he also becomes the first player to qualify for the season ending 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Rafael Nadal regains French Open title, world no.1 ranking

It's a sweet revenge for Rafael Nadal and his fans!

After struggling to get back into form since his lost to Robin Soderling at Roland Garros last year, Nadal finally found his way back to the top as the King of Clay again.

Also spotted at RG: Michelle Yeoh and Jean Todt

Not only that he wins his fifth French Open title and 7th Grand Slam, we also reclaims the top ATP rank from Roger Federer again on Monday.
“I lost last year because I was not well-prepared, and I had very low morale last year, as well,” said Nadal who covered his face with a towel and cried after the match ended.

“But this time, I’m back. I’m back—and I win.”Nadal is 38-1 over his career at Roland Garros.
Now he is only one French Open title shy of Bjorn Borg’s record of 6.This is the second time in three years that Nadal won the tournament without losing a set.

There's no time to celebrate or relax as Nadal plans to fly to London today and start practicing on grass. Of course I hope he'll clinch the second Wimbledon title this year.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles, Francesca Schiavone defeated Samantha Stosur in Saturday’s final, 6-4, 7-6 (2), and celebrated by kissing the clay.

Yikess!

At 29, Schiavone became the oldest woman to win her first Grand Slam title in 41 years.

In the men's doubles final, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic beat Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday to clinch their third grand-slam title together.

The William sisters earned their 12th Grand Slam title by beating Katarina Srebotnik and Kveta Peschke 6-2, 6-3 in the women's doubles.

Now the clay season has officially ended. Let's look forward to the grass surface.

Does Roger Federer still have the drive to win?

I thought Roger Federer would easily beat Robin Soderling after the first set victory.

I was wrong.

It's like a deja vu all over again. Remember Rafael Nadal's fourth round lost last year to Soderling at Roland Garros? But honestly, the pain for Nadal and his fans were so much greater compared to Federer's lost last night.

So, the Swede sensation defeated Federer 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the semifinals and end the Swiss maestro’s run of 23 consecutive semifinal appearances in Grand Slam tourneys.

Federer seems cool and even joked about it.

"They all come to an end at some stage. You hope they don't happen, but they do. It was a great run," Federer said.

"Now I've got the quarterfinal streak going, I guess."
LOL! Now seriously, for someone who used to set the bar high, do you think he would settle for less now? Are we ever going to see him in any Grand Slam final again or is he contented with the current 16 GS titles and a happy family of 4?

Rafael Nadal on football

World Cup fever is here again. The first match will kick off in just less than two weeks.
"I love football," Nadal says. "Sure, I'm going to watch the World Cup."
Being a Spaniard, Nadal will of course root for his own country.

Nadal plans to see as many matches as he can in between matches during the Wimbledon later this month.
"I think Spain has an unbelievable team, a complete team: the goalkeeper, the defenders, and the attack is unbelievable. We have a chance to win," Nadal says.

"But at the same time, when you play matches ... anything can happen."
Speaking of match results, so far Nadal is doing great at the French Open.

The King of Clay moved into the quarterfinal yesterday after beating up and coming player Thomaz Bellucci in straight set 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga likely to miss Wimbledon

Looks like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will miss the grass court season after injuring his right hip during his fourth-round match against Mikhail Youzhny at the French Open.

The Frenchman underwent scans that confirmed a muscle lesion in his hip and he'll probably have to rest for the next 10 days.

Then he'll have
to undergo another checkup to see if he can play at the Wimbledon which is scheduled to start on June 21.

HCFoo loves Sam Stosur!

"I guess a lot of people have changed their idea about what kind of tennis player I am recently. I guess that's a good thing."
~ Samantha Stosur who beats Justine Henin in the fourth round at Roland Garros yesterday.

She's right!

Earlier this year, I've told tennis pal Esther that I'm going to make Samantha Stosur my idol. I had enough of Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic, Ana Sharapova and their inconsistency.

VIDEO: Karaoke session with Kei Nishikori

Look who's singing karaoke at the Roland Garros' karaoke booth...

Well, I don't understand Japanese... but he could be singing "My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades".

Gianni Minna and Gael Monfils: Separated at birth?

If you've watched last night's match between Rafael Nadal and Gianni Mina, you would have realized the resemblance between him and Gael Monfils.

They have a couple of things in common too... both of them are French and
their parents are from the French Caribbean.

Minna wears Nike while Monfils recently changed from Nike to K-Swiss.

Kimiko Date still kick ass at 39

I don't mean to be rude to Dinara Safina with this headline.

But her lost to Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm, who is just 4 months short of her 40th birthday, in the first round at the French Open comes as a huge shock!

Kimiko beats Safina 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Kimiko made her Roland Garros debut back in 1989, when Safina was only three.

With the victory over the former world no.1, Kimiko becomes the second oldest player after Britain's Virginia Wade to win a main draw women's singles match in Paris since the game turned pro.

Congrats to Kimiko for the win!

Astro SuperSport bans Venus Williams due to flesh-coloured undies?

The hype about Venus Williams flashing too much flesh on court is not something new.

It started off even since the Australian Open earlier this year.

Personally, I like Venus' French Open skimpy outfits but Astro, my local satellite television thinks otherwise.

According to an inside source, Astro decided to ban Venus due to her inappropriate dressing - flesh-coloured shorts, which you could have mistaken her for not wearing any underwear!

So what if Venus still wearing the same dress to the final? Let's wait and see.

Updated: Here's the latest from source... Astro will air Venus' LIVE match tonight but any repeated or delayed matches of Venus will be edited if it's inappropriate.
