bye bye Supernova

Supernova chose Lukas instead of Dilana. So the rumour is true.

Based on last night performance (and all the performance before) we all knew who is the best in this competition. We simply knew that even how good or great she is, a female rocker is just not good enough to cut it as their lead singer. Come on, you don't always get a great rock singer like Dilana. If Dilana doesn't cut it, I don't think any female rockers will ever get it.

Dilana gave the best performance with Roxanne by the Police (with Magni, Lukas and Toby backing her up). I must say that is the most touching song I've heard so far in Rockstar both season 1 and 2. And she did great last night by being the only rocker who was not in the bottom 3.

Hope Gilby keeps his word to produce an album for Dilana because I'm going to wait and buy that album. I've already downloaded all her music and going to listen to them on my way back to my hometown.

And sorry Supernova, I'm not interested in your music and your new frontman. I simply watch the show because of Dilana.

just 3 reasons why I hate "One In A Million"

I must say that of all the reality singing show I've ever seen, "One In A Million" is the show that you don't feel like watching. I watched the first few weeks and then I stopped. I only kept myself updated with the show results and gossips. Here's are just 3 reasons enough to make me stop watching:

1. The show is a rojak show. I don't mean the language (although it is) but because the show is a mix of Akademi Fantasia (the diary part and the comments by Shafinaz which is very similar to what she always said in AF) and Malaysian/American Idol (Paul 'Simon Cowell wannabe' Moss and the small stage).

2. Recording artists are allowed to participate but this is not my reason. I mean artist like Dayang Nurfaizah is exempted from the show's promotional tours? 8tv double standard or what? If I'm the sponsor, I'll kick her out! I thought participants must sign a commitment letter. So Dayang has a different agreement? No doubt she is a good singer, but what is the point when you just want to take the RM1 mil but not participating in all the promotional tours like everyone else. I hate to say this, but is she doing her own promotional tour because I've been seeing advertisement that she was performing in Planet Hollywood few months back and even on the TV (not OIAM though).

3. The participants are boring and doesn't have charisma. I don't think anyone really deserve the RM1 mil. In fact, I think AF is more successful. Seriously that was the only Malay show that I followed although I don't vote. Perhaps I like the show because of Aznil. And the quality of sound and transmission are clearer too.

I think 8tv should go back to Malaysian Idol instead. One In A Million is a total failure. It's true.

Rockstar Supernova: final 4

Dilana is back! Last night elimination night was the right time for Dilana to make a come back after weeks of bashing on Rockstar. She killed the song "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick. The ending was a bomb! I don't purposely say this because I'm a fan but because now I'm relieve and believe that she finally proved that she's worth to be in the final. After all she is the best singer among all the rockers in the show.

Eventhough we have seen so much humiliating moments about Dilana, after last night show, now I believe Dilana still have a chance to win. In fact, I believe she is Supernova first choice. Let me tell you why:

1. Dilana is the first choice to sing Supernova original song "Leave the Lights On". Jason Newsted kept reminding the audience and rockers that they haven't decided on the winner yet and there are still lotsa chance for the rockers to prove themselves. Actually Supernova already knew who they want.

2. This is not an audition for a front man for a heavy metal band. Let us remember that the genius behind this show is Mark Burnett, the king of reality shows. If you look at The Apprentice, Survivor and The Contender, you see lotsa manipulation and drama. Rockstar is no less.

3. Throughout this show we have seen the best and the worst in Dilana which we don't see in other rockers. In short, she is the main focus of the show.

4. If you look closely at the Rockstar logo, it shows the shadow of a woman! A resemblance of Dilana, perhaps?

5. JD Fortune didn't received good response from the audience too and had been criticized by INXS because of his attitude on stage and off stage and yet he was chosen to front INXS. If you remember, JD was commented by his band mates even in the first week for crossing the line when he was performing on stage. But why he was chosen? Simply because he is the man and the voice for the band. Only the people who cares and wants you to improve will criticize you. If you compare Dilana and Lukas, Dilana was criticized by the house band leader (???) for changing the arrangement of the song "Behind Blue Eyes" which sounds ok to me but there was no similar comment for Lukas who did a horrible rendition of Living On a Prayer and Lithium and yet still got praised by Supernova? It didn't make sense to me at all. If you are living in the Bon Jovi era, you knew Lukas sucked!

In the end, nobody is heavy metal enough to front Supernova except Dilana. She has come a long way and go through ups and downs. Speedy recovery for Dilana. I guess, she'll still be jumping with one foot throughout the show. Seriously, if I'm her, I would be giving up after all the embarassment and tore my muscle. Man, she is one tough lady. Now, I'm hoping that the best remedy for you by winning this competition! As for Toby, people might think he's going to win this, but he just got a car and he's only shines in this couple of weeks. So, Toby is not likely going to win this.

the amazing race 10: fever is on

Again, The Amazing Race proves that they are still the best reality competition by winning again at the Emmy Award last week.

And the new The Amazing Race season 10 will be shown on AXN starting from 18 September! It feels like ages waiting for the show (and I felt just the same way for Lost season 3!) eventhough we just saw BJ and Tyler won season 9 few months ago.

I've just log on to the AXN website that offers to win The Amazing Race goodies by simply giving one amazing reason to watch the show. I've submitted mine. I would loved to win the waist pouch and torch!

"I can give hundreds of reasons to watch the Amazing Race and talk about this show from season 1 to season 9. But above all the good reasons, there is one particular reason why I loved so much about the show. The diversity of the culture in each country the contestants have been to show me how small the world we lived in and yet time is often limited for us to see the entire world. While contestants rushed from one check point to another, they get to explore different countries and continents of the world. Some of the contestants spared time to admire and appreciate the beauty of the places along the race while some just concentrate on their tasks or relationships or even complained about the inconvenience they faced particularly when they were in the third world countries or East Asia whereby English is not a popular language. Therefore, I'm really excited and looking forward to season 10 because this time around we are not only going to see the most amazing and diverse culture in the most challenging cities in countries like China, Mongolia and Kuwait but we will also have the opportunity to watch the most diverse casts (there are Asian-American, Indian-American, Muslims, an amputee and an out-lesbian) ever shown on the Amazing Race."

For more info about The Amazing Race 10, go to:
CBS: The Amazing Race 10
Wikipedia: The Amazing Race 10

And by the way, The Amazing Race Asia promotional tour is coming to Malaysia this Saturday at Berjaya Times Square. They are looking for 10 teams of 2 to participate in some of the challenges and win great prizes. I wish I can join but I gotta work.

Supernova: top 5

Finally Ryan is out! I've waited so long to see him being eliminated. He did improved a lot but he'd tried too hard especially in these couple of weeks to prove his showmanship from thrashing the guitar (after Dave told the rockers that he wanted to see something broken by the end of the season) last week to sliding and standing on the piano and jumping of the amp. And he did screamed a lot when he can't reach some high notes.

Dilana, my favourite rocker, hit rock bottom this week. Poor mama. She made a huge mistake last week with the media. She couldn't handle the pressure after being blasted by Dave and Supernova on her catty behaviour. Things got even worse when she smashed a glass and pieces of it hit Magni on his head. It wasn't intentional but things happened. Although she killed the song "Mother, Mother" (it was a perfect song for her!), she had to bear the consequences of her behaviour by ended up in the bottom 3.

I don't have much comment about the other rockers: Magni is great but I don't really like his "lazy" performance on stage. I mean, Supernova are formed by the guys from Guns n' Roses, Metallica and Motley Crue! They are heavy metal bands! Toby on the other hand is kind of a joker among the rockers. Let's get serious, he doesn't suit the band. Lukas, this guy looked more of a punk rocker than a heavy metal rocker. And he can't hold the notes. When he sang "Lithium" this week, I thought it was awful! I wonder why Dave said it was awesome when the arrangement sucked and Lukas' performance was simply disorganised. I've never heard of such a bad version of Nirvana song. Lastly, there was Storm singing Evanescence rendition of "Bring Me to Life". It was definitely not the right song for her but she did her best. Anyway, Storm is too pretty for a band like Supernova.

After last week and this week's show, I started to get bored of the show. Maybe I'm just being sensitive but the show seems like trying very hard to show the evil side of her. After all, she had been doing extremely well throughout the show. In one of the episode on the America's Next Top Model 1, one of the contestant Elise won one of the task when she talked openly (in another word bad-mouth) about other contestants to the media. The reason she won was because the media loved her for sharing so much info while the other contestants kept their good image. Coming back to Rockstar, come on, this is a rock show not idol show! Rockers should be wild and crazy and full of controversy. We don't need pretenders in this show. We don't want to see nice guys in this show! Even Tommy Lee tries to act like one now. Gimme a break. Seriously, now I don't mind if Dilana doesn't get chosen anymore (rumour said Supernova chose Lukas). I think Dilana would be better off being a solo artist. But of course winning this competition is great.

Rockstar Supernova: Dilana rocks!

The Rockstar show is great not only because they have Tommy Lee, but because I'm looking forward to see Dilana perform every week! She is a hell of a rocker! I've never been so excited about the show.

Yesterday the rockers went unplugged again. Dilana belted out the song Cats In The Cradle a classic by Harry Chapin but I only knew the song which was sang by Ugly Kid Joe back in the 90s. Her charisma shines and her vocal simply rocks!

This morning I got up and watch the results show. Gilby (or was it Jason) said they have been sitting too long on their a**es and they decided to perform for the first time. And guess what? They have been in the studio with the rockers to sing a new Supernova song. This morning they chose Dilana to front the band and sang Leave The Lights On! Dilana proves to us that Supernova had made the right choice! There was no gimmick and Dilana is just Dilana.

What's amazing about Dilana is her professionalism. She can be crazier performing with the band but she remain humble. She is definitely a true friend with the other rockers. When Magni was voted the bottom 3, his rendition of Creep made Dilana wept. The lyrics did said it all, when Magni sang, "What the hell I'm doing here... I don't belong here...". Hell yeah, Magni doesn't belong to the bottom 3. It should be Storm who sucks with the song "I Will Survive" popularised by Gloria Gaynor. She survived this time but I would like to see her go after Patrice and Toby.

Another great week for Rockstar Supernova. Can't wait for next week.

crazy about reality tv shows

It's been ages since I last post message here. Have been spending so much time working on educational book projects, organizing and marketing my CRT (crossword-based revision technique) programme as well as planning and writing proposal for team building activity which I called Experience-based Learning Programme (ELP).

Anyway I still spend a lot of time at night watching tv especially reality shows. Currently, I've been following up closely with America's Next Top Model Cycle 5, The Apprentice 5, The Contender 2 and last but not least Rockstar 2: Supernova. From my own point of view, I gotta say that my favourites are Rockstar and ANTM.

I'm not sure but after the second episode of The Apprentice, I kinda feel that the show is slowly losing its appeal. It's almost the same types of people who create problems to the teams and they have to perform similar kinda tasks. And yeah, there's also the same old boring Donald Trump giving the same old comments. The show started out strong; with the Project Managers (one is a Mensa member and another a Harvard grad) chosing their team members without knowing their backgrounds. By the end of the first episode, you knew who were the troublemakers and that being a Mensa member doesn't help.

The Contender 2 is great too but I keep on comparing them to the participants from the last season. Having lesser latin boxers this season perhaps is the reason why I'm not so into this show.

I must give credit to Tyra Bank for the success of ANTM. Every season, you can expect new things from her. I think Cycle 5 is perhaps one of the best because of the diversity of the contestants. The challenges are so difficult this season and not to mention the embarassment. The most interesting part of this show so far is the relationship between two of the contestants, Kim and Sarah. However, this is also the lowest point of the show because the relationship was cut short after one of them was eliminated from the show after having several bad weeks. Another thing is, Janice Dickinson is no longer the permanent judge on ANTM (booo!) but we will be seeing her in the show as photographer.

Perhaps the best singing reality show right now is Rockstar Supernova. If you are a rock fan like me, you don't want to miss the show every Wednesday and Thursday. These guys singing on the show are real singers/rockers! Compared to INXS, I find Supernova more appealing. Yeah, especially when you have the forever charismatic Tommy Lee (ex-Motley Crue), Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and Jason Newsted (Metallica). I think the contestants this time around is far better compare to the JD Fortune's batch. After watching the show for many weeks, I gotta say that my favourite is Dilana (she rocks!). She is by far the only female on the Rockstar (both season 1 and 2) who has the chance to front those guys. She is not only a rockstar but a performer. Each week, I can't wait to sit in front of the tv and see her performance. And not to mention her vocal! I think her best performance so far is singing Time After Time, the unplugged version. I swear I would buy her album! Besides Dilana, I think Magni is also a hot favourite to front Supernova.

Well, there you are my current favourite reality shows on tv. Now I can't wait for The Amazing Race 10 (the mother of all reality shows) which will be shown on tv this September. And talking about the word "Amazing", I've submitted my team to the AXN Amazing Mall Challenge held next Saturday at 1 Utama. Not sure if my team will be chosen. But it'll be good to take part and get to know more people as well as to see if we have got what it takes to complete the challenges.

american idol season 5

I have been busy throughout the week and couldn't wait to sit down and type something about the American Idol. I was never impressed with the audition part (I find it utterly annoying). What I have been waiting all this while is to listen to the real talents.

From the beginning, all I want to see is Lisa Tucker and Ace Young. Man, they have the face of a star and they can sing really well! Both of them did really well this week. I am really impressed with Ace when he sang one of my favourite song, Father Figure, originally sang by George Micheal. Ace definitely knows how to choose a song that suits her voice. And Lisa, she's just so young but her talent simply shines.

I always find Taylor 'Grey-haired Guy' Hicks weird. But when he performed the song, Levon, I was impressed by the way he moves and sing the song. I felt as if he was singing a winning song at the final! As the judges said, he is Original (with a capital 'O'). If you have watched American Idol the previous week, you will be amazed to see him blowing the harmonica while walking in for his final audition. I had goose bumps just watching that.

There are so much talents this season. I have other favourites too like Ayla, Katharine, Elliot and Chris. However, I believe no rockers will be able to compare to Bo Bice, no black singers will be able to take the place of Fantasia and finally, no country singers since Carrie Underwood.

The winner of this season? I think it is quite obvious. I think American Idol needs a new pop singer since Kelly Clarkson.

america's next top model

I have to confess that I'm a BIG fan of reality shows. But of all the shows, there are only three shows that I loved most: The Amazing Race, The Apprentice and America's Next Top Model (ANTM). Yes, American Idol is not even in my list of favourite reality show. The criteria to be my favourite reality show are pretty simple:
1. good format
2. excellent editing
3. entertaining cast
4. intelligent host
5. lotsa dramas

However, I'm only interested to talk about ANTM because season 4 is on Channel V (Astro channel 72) right now. While you can also find season 3 on 8TV, I'm not going to talk about it because Channel V has shown it MANY times.

Yesterday, it was only the 2nd episode of season 4 (shown every Monday at 8 pm and repeated throughout the week). Last week, Tyra Bank, the gorgeous host and executive producer of ANTM, introduced to us the 14 finalists who came from various backgrounds and dream of becoming the next top model.

Of all of these girls, I have to say that my favourite is Naima, a 20-year-old from Detroit who works as a coffee shop waitress. After watching all the previous seasons, I knew that she has got what it takes and will go very far in this competition (spoiler: she did!). From the 1st and 2nd episodes, you can sense that Tyra and the other flamboyant judges loved her for being edgy and unique.

The best part about episode 2 was when they were experiencing their first photo shoots. Some were good but most of them were just clueless. Also there was this makeover session. One of the girls, Michelle, was shaking like she was being possessed when she had to go through a painful session of bleaching her hair to blond.

No point for me to repeat what happened in the show because you have to watch it yourself or read all the episodes from ANTM website. So far, season 4 is one of the best. Only into the 2nd episode and there are already a lot of drama (black girls = drama) and hilarious scenes. The format is solid and the cast is just beautiful and amazing!

jaclyn victor da bomb

It's no big deal when Jaclyn won Malaysian Idol last year.

However, I am more impressed when she won the golden prize in the recent 8th Asian New Talent in Shanghai. I did not know she won until I watched 8tv last week. She gave a flawless performance with her song, Gemilang (the other song was When I Fall in Love and it was rather boring). I believe this song plays an important part in her winning.

Now, I wonder when there will be another World Idol. I think it will be a waste for our country if she doesn't have a chance to showcase her talent in the international level. I really believe she will be able to create an impact (especially with the song, Gemilang).

Amazing Race 8: where are the family values?

The winning family has been predicted correctly. The Linz family won the eighth season. No surprise at all because the result leaked several months ago.

The Amazing Race 8 is a Family Edition. However, very sad to say, I don't see any good American family values in this show. Gone are the Brady Bunch or Growing Pains days. What I saw was a bunch of young people (and even parents) who doesn't know how to respect their family members and other people. In fact, parents never try to do anything to educate the young ones to show respect to one another.

While we Asians can still be proud of our family values, the American are living the nightmares of sarcastic families like the Paolos and Godlewskies.

If you have been catching up with AR8, you know what I mean. The Linzes have been continuously calling Linda Weaver names which I think is totally rude. Yesterday, we saw the Linzes and Bransens completely alienated the Weaver family during lunch (this is not the first time). I was surprised because Dad Bransen did nothing to advise his daughters and the young Linzes. If I'm not wrong, one of his daughter was calling Linda Weaver wacky. Instead of advising her to be more polite, Dad Bransen joined the crowd to sabotage the Weaver family.

I must give credit to Linda Weaver for keeping her family together and race until the finishing line. Despite being sidelined by other teams she was strong, protective and did her best to encourage her kids. She is definitely the Mom of the Year. I have a lot for respect for her.

Can't wait for the next AR in February. I need a good dosage of AR9 to make up for this season which is a complete disaster.

Daniel MI2 latest album a hit in pasar malam

I've never supported Daniel in Malaysian Idol 2 nor I like the songs from his latest album which is frequently broadcasted over the airwaves.

However there is one thing that I will support him, anti-piracy. I was at the pasar malam in SS2 last night and saw his pirated album in every CD stalls. Poor Daniel. Just like Mawi, he should steps up and make a public call to discourage his fans or 'curious Malaysians' (who wants to listen to his album) from buying pirated Cds.

Dec 1, 2005

amazing race 8: support the Weaver family!

During the first and second episodes of Amazing Race 8, I thought this family edition will not be as exciting as the previous seasons. I thought it is not wise to sell American history and watching the families spending most of their time racing within their homeland.

But I was wrong. AR8 is different from its predecessors but just as exciting and watchable. I must say that they have an amazing combination of families. Personally I support the Weaver family since the first episode. I particularly love the part when the Weaver family was in the last place in Utah, (they took the wrong route and later yielded (again!) this time by the evil Linz family) enjoying their ice-creams to ease their frustrations thinking that they would be eliminated. I admire Linda for her courage and perseverance in protecting her kids and keeping her family together.

On the other hand, the Linz family is a bunch of pathetic and rude people. They simply don't have respect for others particularly Linda Weaver by calling her names. I don't understand why they hate the Weaver family so much. Rumour says that the Linz family won AR8. That's going to be a very sad ending because bad guys never win the Amazing Race before. Colin, Jonathan and Rob are very good examples.

please, no more Malaysian Idol 3

I beg 8TV, please, no more Malaysian Idol if you can't produce a winner with good quality singing and performance. Ahmad Izham and the judges said Daniel's winning is healthy for the music industry as he has a large followers to vote for him (1.2 million votes for the grand final to be exact).

I thought he sings 'Mimpi' awfully until the level I have to switch to other channel because I was so worried and embarassed for him. One of the caller during the press conference asked, how is he going to represent Malaysia in the World Idol? I certainly believe he doesn't have the voice to represent Malaysia in the international level. Poor Daniel.

Instead Nita did a great performance. I am certainly proud of her. She is elegant and she definitely has that 'diva' look. She's going to be a successful singer if she can come up with a great album that suits her personality. Too bad that most of her fans are in the 20s and above. We love her but we don't waste our money to buy votes (it is religiously and politically incorrect).

8TV must understand that 50 sen per vote is expensive (nowadays sms only 1 sen) and rational adults don't vote. Those who vote are especially young girls aged below 18. This again proved that last night result doesn't represent the 'Malaysians voice'.

I believe soon Malaysian Idol is going to end up like Akademi Fantasia whereby guys win every season. And not to mention the rise of fanatic fans who only vote based on looks and not talent. If this is the case, I urge 8TV to come up with other reality shows instead.

Sep 14, 2005

can't wait for Amazing Race 8!

I rate Amazing Race as the best reality tv show ever. I simply love the format of the show. The adventures and conflicts are always unpredictable which make this reality series so watchable. And now they are coming back with the 8th season: The Family Edition!

I've checked the schedule and it's going to be on AXN channel on the 28th September with a 2-hour premier show. This time there will be 10 teams comprised of 4 family members! I'm sure this is going to be exciting and fun. I can imagine the parents nagging their kids, wives yelling at their husbands or kids getting impatient because their parents are so slow.

hugging issue and what we can learn from AF

Najib created a big fuss about the hugging trend on our local reality tv show which I believe is referring to Malaysian Idol (particularly last week when Azzam was voted out).

Now I begin to see the positive side of Akademi Fantasia whereby the contestants would salam or kiss each other hands instead of hugging like what we normally see on Malaysian Idol. AF is no doubt more localised in terms of values.

Perhaps Najib himself is a big fan of AF3 (and Mawi who is a religious model) and wants Malaysian Idol to take the show as a role model.

Aug 1, 2005

Malaysian Idol no difference from Akademi Fantasia

First, I was disappointed with Akademi Fantasia and gave up watching the show. Then I thought there was still hope with Malaysian Idol. However after the result show last night, I really believe that Malaysian do not vote based on talent.

The voting system might work in countries with large population like the US whereby the chances of fanatic votes are low. I don't see this system works in our country. I'm not sure how many percentage of Malaysians are going to spend 65 sen per vote (which is darn expensive!). I don't even spend on a single vote for anybody and none of my friends did.

Since our judges are not powerful and influential enough to convince the viewers (who are the best and who should be out from the competition), I say we should allocate a certain percentage of votes to the judges and the rest to the voters.

Jun 28, 2005

finally I've decided to give up AF3 for Malaysian Idol

I have made up my mind! I'm going to stop watching Akademi Fantasia 3 and go for the real talents instead. Yes, despite all the bad things I've said about the judges and hosts on Malaysian Idol, I promise to spend my Friday night watching the idol wannabes on 8TV.

It is sad because AF3 has a better format compare to MI. However the fanatic fans on AF doesn't believe in real talents. Contestant like Idayu was kicked out from the competition although she has proven herself as the best singer among her peers. Chatters in Astro Channel @15 even said AF is not a place for talented people like her and she should have join MI instead.

The judges on AF make no difference at all. Despite all the sincere and wise comments, even Shafinaz (no doubt, one of the best judges on AF) got booed by Mawi's fanatic fans last week. What a shame!

Hopefully things will be different on Malaysian Idol. We definitely don't want to see contestants being vote for nothing. We want to see real talents. We want the real deal! Please, no tv shows that suck money from voters and certainly not fanatic fans that monopolize the whole show.

making money out of AF3 fever

Last night, the number of pelajar was down to 12. I'm a fan of the reality show since I was introduced to AF 2 last year by my Sis. No doubt the show is better than Astro Talent Quest (Chinese), Malaysian Idol, Audition or Mentor. I do watch all these shows to be in position to comment on this. However I'm not going to comment about the quality of the shows or even compare them.

I must salute to the people at Astro. These people really know how to generate money. Last season, AF charged 50 sen per sms/vote but this year they increase it to 65 sen per vote which is an increase of 30%. All the mobile service providers already lower their sms rates to as low as 1 sen per sms. Even Astro Talent Quest still charge 50 sen per vote. I really pity the voters and chatters at Channel @15 for being so fanatic about the show and they wouldn't mind spending hundreds of ringgit (this information was obtained based on my observation on channel @15). There was even this funny guy who say something like this in the chatroom: "Bini tak mau bagi wang. Aku gadai motor. Sekarang ada kredit RM1000 untuk AFundi."

Astro is so smart that they bring back Mawi, the pelajar that generate the most income for them. He was not chosen in the initial stage but because of the big demand from the chatters, the number of students were increased to 14 pelajar just to accomodate the request from AF fans. The other pelajar chosen to join back AF3 is Marsha. This Mawi guy was so phenomenal that even the host Aznil called him TsuMawi (originated from a chatter @15). He has his fan clubs all over Malaysia and they are ready to spend hundreds of ringgit each just to make him a winner at AF3.

I don't know what so great about Mawi. Some chatters say it's his aura. Some say it's his great voice (with some nasyid touch). But I only hear mediocre singing. He even constantly forget his song lyrics. What I see in those fans is they are trying to realise their dream by turning a kampung boy into a popstar just like in movies. These fans are fanatics and some even says that they are going to vote even if he doesn't sing. Another Carrie Underwood in the making I think.

Despite other talents like Idayu and Felix or even Amylea, Mawi is going to the AF3 champ this year. Trust me because the fanatic fans already invested a lot of money on him. But the BIGGEST winner here is none other than Astro.

I'm starting to get sick of these singing competitions that involves voting system. This is even worse than gambling. At least in gambling you still have a slight chance of winning money for yourself. I suggest AF3 fans or even the coming up Malaysian Idol fans to buy 4D or Jackpot instead of wasting money voting.

Jun 10, 2005

akademi fantasia 3

Although I'm not really a fan of the Malay music scene but I have to give credit to the show Akademi Fantasia (AF). I first watched the show last year when introduced by my Sis who's working in Astro. Now in its 3rd season, I often keep myself updated with the show by watching Diari Akademi Fantasia. Last year there were a lot of Mas (one of the pelajar AF2) fanatic fans. And this year, if you watch Astro @15 you can see Mawi fans dominated the chatroom.

I'm not sure who's my favourite yet but I believe all the 14 pelajar have a lot of things to improve to become better performers. One thing that makes AF so special compare to Malaysian Idol or Audition is AF have some of the best cikgu in the country to train them in singing, dancing and performing. To be honest, Malaysian Idol was lucky because they have Jaclyn Victor last year. Unless they have charismatic contestants with singing background, Malaysian Idol will not be able to compete with AF. Besides Aznil is more versatile, witty and original (although I hate the watch him potraying the sad face when announcing the name of pelajar who will be leaving at the end of concert AF) compare to the hosts and judges in Malaysian Idol who were just a bunch of imitators of the US version.

Tomorrow night will be the AF concert. Definitely Mawi and Felix will top the voting list. Hopefully Amylea will survive because she is indeed a good singer who's a serious pelajar in AF3.
