Caroline Wozniacki excited about Sony Ericsson and Foursquare collaboration

“I love the idea that Sony Ericsson and Foursquare are giving fans the chance to become a key part of the game, rather than just being spectators. The Sony Ericsson Open is always an amazing tournament on the tour, so it seems natural that we give the fans the ultimate tennis experience here in Miami.
~ Caroline Wozniacki

Sony Ericsson has partnered with Foursquare to make the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami the first ever fully-integrated Foursquare sporting event.

Sony Ericsson will work with Foursquare to encourage attendees to check-in at the different venues at the Open, starting on March 21, rewarding them with prizes, specific Tennis Fan Badges and discounts on tickets.

Users will also have the chance to win access to post-match conferences with the players and secure a personal one-on-one autograph session.

If a Foursquare user at the event is able to become the Mayor of each court at the Sony Ericsson Open, he/she will be able to head out onto the court to participate in a pre-match coin toss.

The initiative is likely to ensure Foursquare continues to dominate the check-in app market and in return, driving sales at the event and fans like me to collect badges and win prizes. What a brilliant idea!

Caroline Wozniacki: A true Liverpool fan

Do you remember the picture tweeted by Caroline Wozniacki sporting a Liverpool jersey with Fernando Torres autograph on it?

Since Fernando Torres is no longer with the Reds, the football team has to send her a new jersey.

This time it bears Steven Gerrard's autograph.

This picture was tweeted on @CaroWozniacki

It turns out that Wozniacki not only tweeted the picture of that new jersey, she also wore it during her quarterfinal victory over Flavia Pennetta at the Qatar Open.

Wozniacki wears the jersey on court

A fanatic Liverpool fan, Wozniacki stunned the crowd by taking to the court in the football club's famous home jersey.
She tweeted on @CaroWozniacki: "Got so many comments about the Liverpool jersey and to step out on court with it.. So why not;) haha"

Caroline Wozniacki: Flung away or flunked out?

Caroline Wozniacki flung her shoe as she tried to take a penalty kick at the Laureus Football Challenge.

The event was presented by IWC Schaffhausen as part of the 2011 Laureus World Sports Awards at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The WTA world no. 1 has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards along with Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters.

The girls did not take home the World Sportswoman of the Year Award while Nadal walked away with the top honour for men in sports.

Wozniacki arrives on the red carpet.

Wait...wait....

Did Wozniacki borrow that dress from Elena Dementieva?
Dementieva wore the same dress during the gala night of Malaysia's Showdown of Champions back in end of 2009. [source]

Li Na just one step away from Grand Slam title

I wonder how many billion people will be watching this year's Australian Open women final.

It could be a recording breaking year with the entire country of China rooting for Li Na alone.

Congrats to Li Na for becoming the first Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam final after defeated world no.1 and top seed Caroline Wozniacki 3-6 7-5 6-3.

It Must Be Love all over again

The campaign's tagline "It Must Be Love" must have worked really well last year so the organisers at the US Open series decided to stick to it this year.

Here are some of the top tennis players filmed for the ads this year.

Check out Roger Federer illustrates his "tweener" shot, Rafael Nadal shares his pasta recipe, Serena Williams and Andy Roddick talks about Twitter, Andy Murray on being a cocky terminator (hehehe!), Caroline Wozniacki says she's a fighter (yawn!) and the Bryan Brothers teach everyone on how to tell them apart (Zzzzz...).

A quick peep into Fernando Verdasco's sexy lifestyle

They are just friends.
- Image via Montreal Gazette

If Fernando Verdasco is not busy flirting with tennis chick like Caroline Wozniacki on court, he'll be busy off court making money stripping down to his Calvin Klein Underwear and signing autographs on his semi-nude poster.

Somebody suggested Nando to sign his crotch instead.
- Image via Chance Moda

Recently he has been photographed by paparazzi in a 'Titanic' moment with fellow compatriot Feliciano Lopez on a boat in Ibiza.

I know what you're thinking but you could be wrong. There were some hot chicks on the same boat too.

You can check out the rest of the photos here.

Updates: Okay, I want to take back what I've said in the above photo.

The Ugg-ly Truth About Caroline Wozniacki

I know it's snowing season but it doesn't mean that Caroline Wozniacki can walk into a movie premiere in those ugg-ly boots!

Those horrendous boots simply don't go with that black dress and her pretty face. And let's not even talk about those tanned lines.

Off season getaway photos: The Fab Four, JJ & BF, Tipsy & marriage

I'm not sure if it's just me. Looks like there are more vacation photos this year.

Here are more photos from Mauritius where Caroline Wozniacki, Agnieszka Radwanska, Urszula Radwanska and Angelique Kerber switched into relaxation mode during their off season holiday.

For more pictures, click here.

Meanwhile, Serbian Janko Tipsarevic took a big leap in his relationship with TV host girlfriend Biljana Sesevic by proposing to her during their romantic vacation in Maldives.

Yes, she has agreed to marry Tipsarevic.

Fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic and boyfriend Mladjan Janovic also took the off season opportunity to spend a romantic weekend together in Cannes last week.

However there is no marriage announcement from the couple yet.

Not only that the girls were caught on bikini shots, Wozniacki and Agnieszka were also caught sunbathing on the beach!

Don't you wish you were that hand? :P

Check out the following picture. It would not surprise me if Wozniacki appears on Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue next year.

Safin, Sharapova among tennis stars to kick off 2010 at the Hong Kong Tennis Classic

Looks like it has becoming a trend in Asia (e.g. Doha, Malaysia, etc) where tennis events are heavily bankrolled by their respective governments.

Team Asia: Paradorn Srichaphan, Zheng Jie, Ayumi Morita
Team America: Michael Chang, Venus Williams, Gisela Dulko

Caroline Wozniacki under scrutiny after match-throwing controversy

Caroline Wozniacki and her father Piotr denied the speculation that the 19-year-old threw her first round match at the Luxembourg Open earlier this week against local player Anne Kremer.

Wozniacki was leading 7-5, 5-0 before quitting the match due to injury, causing tennis authorities to investigate the event.

Who in their right mind would do that? So, I'm not shocked by the allegation.

Viewers watching online streaming were said to be able to hear Piotr tell her daughter to quit at 3-0 in the second set in order to save herself from further injury.

This sparked a series of bets on her opponent who was already on the verge of losing.

Piotr defended his 'innocent intentions".
"I went onto the court and said to her, 'Caro, it does not matter whether it's going to be 5-0, 4-1 or 3-2. You can not play the next round, so you shouldn't take the risk,"' he explained to Danish radio.

"I'm very proud of Caroline, because she stopped the fight and gave her opponent a chance."
Last year, tennis governing bodies created a Tennis Integrity Unit in an effort to combat gambling and match-fixing in the sport.
"We're just looking into everything that happened in this match," WTA spokesman Neil Robinson said, adding that he believed the information would go to the integrity unit.
Wozniacki immediately dismissed suggestions that the result was rigged.
"So, people bet on my matches. Some win, others lose. I just know that I am clean. It is most important to me," Wozniacki said.

"And if anyone is in doubt about my injury, I can both produce scan from the hospital and a report from the tournament physiotherapist."
Despite her injury, Wozniacki has confirmed her participation in the season-ending WTA Tour Championship in Doha next week.

On the lighter side of Wozniacki, I would prefer her being watched this way than by the tennis authorities. Check out the video.

Kim Clijsters: Back with a bang and wins US Open women's title

Are you surprised? I guess not!

Kim Clijsters defeated Caroline Wozniacki 7-5, 6-3 to win the US Open.

That makes her the first unranked player and first wildcard to win a Grand Slam, and the first mother to do so since Evonne Goolagong in 1980.

Light moment with baby daughter Jada

I'm tied up with some work so, I'll be back with more updates on US Open Day 14 later.

US Open Day 13 Wrap-up: Gonzalez eats bagel, Clijsters wins but Serena steals the show, Wozniacki stays in the shadow

Rafael Nadal beat Fernando Gonzalez pretty quickly to win 7-6, 7-6, 6-0 in a match that began Thursday evening.

Gonzalez who seemed not getting enough warm-up kept looking at the sky and scoreboard, perhaps was looking for a sign of rain.

It started to drizzle a bit and Gonzalez sought treatment from a trainer for his feet but that didn't help to delay his lost to Nadal for another day.

Light shower continued through the evening but I was glad that both women's singles semifinals finally took off.

Kim Clijsters reached the final by beating Serena Williams 6-4, 7-5.

Kimmie, I'm sorry I stole the limelight from you tonight.

However the match was marred by controversy after Serena was docked a point for yelling at an official who called a foot fault.

I may look very calm on the outside but guess what, I'm shit scared of Serena inside.

The line judge reported it to the chair umpire which led to the chair umpire awarding a point to Clijsters, ending the match.

Serena already had been given a code violation warning when she broke her racket after losing the first set.

At the press conference, Serena denied she threatened to 'kill the line judge' and it was unnecessary to apologize to the lady. You can read the full transcript here.

In another women's semifinal that took place at the same time, Caroline Wozniacki's victory was overshadowed by the controversy.

Wozniacki will play in her first Grand Slam final after defeated Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 6-3.

Here's Sunday's order of play on day 14 at the U.S. Open (prefix denotes seeding):

(Starts at 12:00 PM)
1-Roger Federer (Switzerland) v 4-Novak Djokovic (Serbia)
3-Rafael Nadal (Spain) v 6-Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina)
9-Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) v Kim Clijsters (Belgium)

US Open Day 10 Wrap-up: Oudin runs out of magic, Federer reaches 22nd Grand Slam semis

It's curtain call for Melanie Oudin at the US Open but as she stepped out of the Arthur Ashe stadium last night, her life will change forever - as the media said, she'll step into "a world of jostling paparazzi, autograph signing and an endorsement-filled future".

Caroline Wozniacki who ended Oudin's dream run with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, will go into her first Grand Slam semifinals for the first time.

In an earlier quarterfinal match, Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who never before past a Grand Slam second round, beat Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko 7-5, 6-4.

Both Wozniacki and Wickmayer will meet in a Friday semifinal to determine the winner to play for a US Open title on Saturday against either Serena Williams or Kim Clijsters.

In the men's singles, Roger Federer defeated Robin Soderling 6-0, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 to extend his winning streak to 39 at the US Open.

Federer will play Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, after the Serbian pulled off a 7-6, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over the unfit Fernando Verdasco.

Here's Thursday’s order of play on day 11 at the U.S. Open (prefix denotes seeding):

(Not before 1100EDT)
6-Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina) v 16-Marin Cilic (Croatia)

(Not before 1900EDT)
11-Fernando Gonzalez (Chile) v 3-Rafael Nadal (Spain)
