Nadal reclaims ATP no.1 spot and trains for Davis Cup

Source: Marca.com

Rafael Nadal is finally back from his hip injury by training for the upcoming Davis Cup match against Germany. While I bet you are going to enjoy the online live streaming of the match, feel free to also check out Dreamz.com if you're up for a thrilling session of online casino.

After the 10-time French Open champion dethroned arch-rival Roger Federer from the number one spot, Nadal started training again under the direction of Spain captain, Sergi Bruguera alongside with his fellow compatriots David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Roberto Bautista and Pablo Carreno Busta.

Source: laht.com

Nadal, who just completed his first training at the iconic Plaza de Toros de Valencia, could be playing when the two countries meet from April 6-8. Spain defeated Great Britain in the last round of the competition to reach this stage of the Davis Cup.

By returning to the top spot in the ATP ranking, it will certainly boost Nadal's confidence a little bit more. I do not mean to jinx him but it seems like every time he reached the no.1 rank, he could go on to finish the year as the no.1 ranked player.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer who had an amazing run in 2018, will not be competing throughout the entire clay court season. With just 100 points behind Nadal, and no points to defend, it seems like the perfect plan for Federer. As for Nadal, he couldn't afford to make any error. A small slip by Nadal's side would make the Swiss maestro the top-ranked player again.

Nadal has been out of action since the Australian Open quarterfinal match in January.

Arrivals at the Sony Open Player Party

Players arrived at Sony Open Player Party 2013 held at the JW Marriott Marquis on Tuesday in Miami, Florida.

Missing from the tournament are Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who won the BNP Paribas Open last week.

Maria Sharapova who was also recently victorious at the BNP Paribas Open made an appearance at the players' party along with world no.1 Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Victoria Azarenka and Agnieszka Radwanska among others.

Maria Sharapova is aiming for a rare double at the Sony Open. Only two players in WTA history have won back-to-back Indian Wells and Key Biscayne titles: Steffi Graf (1994 and 1996) and Kim Clijsters (2005).

If you bet on sports you might want to follow the tournament closely.

Novak Djokovic who is the favourite to win the tournament here is set to make a comeback after losing in the semifinals at Indian Wells last week. His 22-match win streak was ended by Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro.

Djokovic will try to claim his fourth Miami title in Key Biscayne while Serena Williams attempts to take her sixth career crown at the $8.5 million ATP and WTA event that began since Tuesday. First-round byes are given to seeded players.

Meanwhile, Victoria Azarenka is still dealing with a nagging, painful injury to her right ankle. After withdrew from Indian Wells last week, Azarenka will enter the Sony Open without a loss. However it is still unsure whether she'll be able to play her first tournament match on Friday.

Another notable player to watch is Spaniard David Ferrer who drew strong contender Del Potro in his quarter at the Sony Open. After a spectacular start to the 2013 season, Ferrer suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Nadal in the finals of Acapulco. That seemed to drag his disappointment with him to Indian Wells. With Del Potro in his half, it could be extremely hard for Ferrer to regain back his no.4 ranking from Nadal.

Looks like the tournament will not lose its shine without Nadal and Federer.

Scholarly David Ferrer in Bovet watch campaign

David Ferrer was featured in the Spanish Revolution magazine recently looking like a scholar or maybe an archaeologist in a series of unusual sepia-toned photographs.

The photos are meant for his Bovet watch campaign.

How do you like Ferrer with a pair of spectacles on?

Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray display football skills to aid Japan relief

Here are the photos of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and friends in a charity soccer match to support the relief effort in Japan.

Other players who joined this effort were Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, Fernando Verdasco, Richard Gasquet, Feliciano Lopez, Viktor Troicki, Marcos Baghdatis, David Ferrer, Jurgen Melzer, etc.

Murray and Baghdatis scored, but the tennis players lost to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers professional team.

If you are thinking of contributing to this relief effort too, please visit this website and bid on something for a good cause.

This auction site was put up by Nishikori to raise funds for the Red Cross to help victims in Japan.

They will continue to fill the site with items as players and events continue to donate.

2010 Malaysian Open Tennis Tournament

We're just 1.5 months away from the 2010 Malaysian Open Tennis Tournament!

I was at the press conference recently to witness the launching and players announcement.

So far Robin Soderling, Nikolay Davydenko, Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer, Mikhail Youzhny, Nicolas Almagro, Marcos Baghdatis, Lleyton Hewitt and Rendy Lu Yen-Hsun are the confirmed line-up who will headline the USD947,750 prize money tournament.

I've uploaded the players message video which features Baghdatis, Youzhny, Soderling and Ferrer.

The ATP 250 tournament is scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 3, at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

Tournament director Nick Freyer makes a brief intro of Rendy.

I'm looking forward to meeting Rendy Lu again.

Together with some fans, we're planning to make a banner to welcome him when he arrives in Malaysia and of course to support him throughout this tournament.

The line-up are strong but who knows he will grab his first ATP 250 title here ;-) Drop me an email if you're interested to join us!

With Lina Teoh the emcee of the Malaysian Open. She's a reason not to miss the tournament.

TENNIS WATCH: Del Potro's wrist, Spanish boys off-court

Since I'm back, I think I'll write more topics that interest me in order to keep this blogging momentum going.

Sad to say this but US Open champ Juan Martin Del Potro could be missing from the entire season due to a wrist injury he suffered since playing at the Australian Open.

He'll go under the knife to fix his right wrist on Tuesday.

At the same time, Del Potro also dismissed the rumour in Argentina that he is suffering from depression. He called them 'malicious and false'.

Fernando Verdasco was spotted at the opening of the "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity" exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City yesterday.

The event was also attended by celebrities like Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson and Katy Perry.

Guess what, Verdasco said he's single and Camilla Belle is just a friend.

While I think he looks rather suave at the event, I would prefer to see more flesh like the one in the recent FHM Bionic magazine.

*********
The other Spanish Armada boys - Tommy Robredo, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez also get to feature on a cover magazine recently.
